Emergency Box Office Collection: Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, in which she portrays India’s former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, released on January 17, 2025. Set during India’s Emergency period from 1975 to 1977, the movie had a moderate opening but has struggled to maintain a strong box office run.
It started the weekend on a positive note with an opening collection of ₹2.5 crore, surpassing Azaad, which also released on Friday. The Republic Day long weekend provided a brief boost, with ₹0.85 crore on January 25 (Saturday) and ₹1.15 crore on January 26 (Sunday).
However, momentum began to slow down by Sunday evening. On Monday, January 29, it earned ₹0.2 crore, and preliminary reviews suggest a similar decline on Tuesday. So far, the film has grossed ₹17.10 crore, and hopes of it reaching ₹20 crore before the end of its second week are diminishing, especially with the upcoming release of Sky Force starring Akshay Kumar.

Before its release, Emergency faced protests from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), resulting in a ban in several cities in Punjab. Many theatres in Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Patiala refused to screen the film. Kangana voiced her frustration on social media, calling it an attack on the artist and their work.
Despite featuring a strong cast, including Anupam Kher and Mahima Chaudhry, and tackling a compelling historical subject, Emergency has had a lackluster box office performance. With new releases on the horizon, its future at the box office remains uncertain.
