A leaked video featuring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur dancing to the revamped track has gone viral, eliciting strong reactions from fans.
Chunari Chunari remake is something that the fans were not ready for, supposedly. Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen’s Chunari Chunari was a massive hit and it still continues to be one of the most played bollywood songs on youtube. Biwi no 1 was directed by Varun’s dad David Dhawan and he is also directing Varun in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
Why Chunari Chunari remake will fail to impress us?
Netizens got to see some exciting bts of Chunari Chunari remake from Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur’s next big film. The team of David Dhawan was shooting in London for Chunari Chunari 2.0. As soon as the video went viral, netizens expressed their disappointment over a few things I am going to point out below along with my own analysis on why this remake is not going to work out so well.
1. The Govinda-Salman combo: VD
Varun has a natural comic timing but for some reasons when he works with his dad, it doesn’t look natural. Varun seems to be copying his dad’s actors, Govinda and Salman Khan, for all the movies they have made together, 2 of them are remakes of David Dhawan movies featuring either Govinda or Salman. This time too, he seems to be in the Govinda-Salman combo comedy mode which might fall flat.

2. Weak dancing actresses
Varun is an exceptional dancer. However, in the leaked clip of Chunari Chunari 2.0, Pooja and Mrunal don’t seem like matching Varun’s energy. “Mrunal can’t dance. I’m sorry, I love her but she is not dancing well here,” said a redditor. Maybe We should wait for the full song release to decide on this.
3. The Outfit
Varun’s outfit looks tacky while the ladies look pretty in the dresses, all of them are not giving chunari chunari vibes wearing those clothes, except for that real red and long chunari. If you look closely, Varun looks like Govinda from Coolie. But they already made a remake of Coolie. If they can recreate the song, what was the shame in recreating the outfits of Salman and Sushmita? Remember how cool they were dressed throughout the song?
Netizens do not want another song to be ruined. They say Bollywood is running out of ideas and has nothing better to do. They keep picking up on a superhit song and ruining them. We will have to wait for the film to be out before we make any further judgments because even though there are problems, it’s a DD and VD film, entertainment is mandatory.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is an upcoming movie of Varun Dhawan, directed by his father David Dhawan. The film also stars Mrunal thakur, Pooja Hegde and Mouni Roy. The film is suspected to be a remake of David’s Biwi No 1 (1999). It makes sense because the movie title is inspired by the lyrics of a song from Biwi No 1, Ishq Sona Hai. Another reason is the remake of Chunari Chunari song. The movie is set to release on 10th April 2026.
