Amid the mythological wave sparked by Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana, Bollywood is now gearing up for its next epic spectacle, Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat, a long-awaited dream project. The ambitious project, which Aamir has often spoken about, has been in the early pre-production stage for years.
He has also highlighted how time-consuming and extensive it can be. However, even if it takes 20 years, Aamir Khan is not going to back down. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how the perfectionist actor-filmmaker reimagines one of India’s greatest epics for the big screen.
Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Aamir Khan opened up about his most ambitious project yet, Mahabharat. He shared, “I’m hoping to start work on it this year. It’s one of my biggest ambitions, fingers crossed.” Aamir also discussed the magnitude of the project, revealing that the writing process alone would span several years.
He further explained that Mahabharat couldn’t be captured in just one film. “You can’t tell Mahabharat in one film. It would be multiple films and if we’re working within a certain timeline, we might even need multiple directors,” he added. While the cast is still under wraps, Aamir made it clear that he will be producing the epic and is committed to handpicking actors who truly fit the roles.

Mahabharat Cast
Will Aamir Khan play Shri Krishna in his dream project Mahabharat? Well, that is what we are guessing and hoping for. So far, Aamir has not spoken about the cast of Mahabharat but has hinted upon choosing actors by himself. However, users on reddit see him more as Vidur and not Shri Krishna. Who do you think will play Draupadi? It could be Deepika Padukone as she has proved her excellence in playing historical figures. But we could also see a fresh face. Yes, and who will be Arjun? Vidyut Jamwal or Hrithik Roshan? We leave the guesses upon you.
Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat Movie Budget
In 2018, writer Anjum Rajabali revealed in an event that Aamir Khan had been conceptualizing the grand idea of creating a high-budget film based on Mahabharat. That same year, Aamir made the decision to step away from the Rakesh Sharma biopic in order to focus on the ambitious project, which was rumored to have a budget of ₹1000 crore. Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat is expected to be a high-budget movie, considering the scale of the epic narrative, the visual effects required and the ensemble cast that will bring this monumental story to life.
“That’s my dream project and it’s a very scary project. So huge and I am scared of getting it wrong. It’s a huge responsibility because as Indians, it’s something so close to us, it’s in our blood. So I want to get it right. I want to make every Indian proud. I also want to show the world what India has. I don’t know if it will happen, but it’s something I want to work towards. So let’s see,” said Aamir Khan during the promotion of Laapata Ladies last year.
