However, there was a time when Amitabh Bachchan had no money and a lot of legal cases against him. Mr Bachchan had shared with the media very candidly in his interviews that the government raided his house and how Dhirubhai Ambani helped him through his tough times.

Amitabh Bachchan paid a whopping amount of tax to the government for the FY 2024-25 which has left the nation wondering about his different sources of earning. The actor has earned Rs 350 crores in 224-25 and has paid Rs 120 crore tax, more than how much Shah Rukh Khan paid.
Amitabh Bachchan’s 120 crore tax has made him the highest tax paying actor in India for FY 2025, reported Pinkvilla. Last year, Shah Rukh Khan dominated the list of highest celebrity taxpayers by contributing ₹92 crore in taxes. However, in FY25, Amitabh Bachchan surpassed him with a 30% higher tax payment, catapulting him from fourth place to the top spot.

In the 1990s, Amitabh Bachchan invested all of his earnings into Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited which didn’t work out and the company faced huge financial crises. Mr Bachchan also faced more than 50 legal cases against his company. He went bankrupt, crushed under the load of debt. The government raided his home when his bank balance reached zero.
Recalling the old times, Bachchan said in an interview, “Jeevan main ek baar aisa daur aaya jab main bankrupt hogaya, diwaalia hogaya mera, meri banai hui company ghaate main chali gayi, karoro ka karza chadh gaya.”
“Mera vyaktigat bank balance zero yani shoonya hogaya, kamai ke sab zariye band the aur sarkaar ki taraf se ghar pr kurki kay chhaape lagye,” he further said.
Dhirubhai Ambani Helped Amitabh Bachchan
He further mentioned how Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, helped him in his bad time. “Yeh baat Dhirubhai ko pata chali, bina kisi se pooche ya jaane unhone apne chote bete aur mere mitra Anil se kaha, ‘Iska bura waqt hai, ise kuch paise dedo,” recalled Mr Bachchan.
During this time, he got work in Yash Raj’s one of the most loved films, Mohabbatein, which came as a big relief. “Ishwar ki kripa rahi aur kuch sankat ke dino kay baad sama badla kam milna shuru hua aur dheere dheere main apne saare karje utaar paaya.”
Today, Amitabh Bachchan stands as one of the most relevant actors at the age of 82. His recent film Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone won him critical acclaim where he played Ashwatthama.
