The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed its investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, confirming that he died by suicide. After a four-year probe, the agency found no evidence of murder, conspiracy, or financial fraud.
Sushant was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. His father, KK Singh, later filed a complaint against actress Rhea Chakraborty and her family, accusing them of forcing Sushant into taking his own life and misusing ₹15 crore of his money. In response, Rhea filed a case against Sushant’s sisters, claiming they got him psychiatric medicines using a fake prescription.
The CBI took over the case in August 2020 and carried out an extensive investigation. They questioned over 20 people, checked forensic evidence, and analyzed Sushant’s phone, laptop, and other belongings. AIIMS doctors also reviewed his autopsy and confirmed that there was no poisoning or strangulation involved, matching the Mumbai Police’s initial report that stated he died by suicide.
Rhea Chakraborty, who was arrested and spent 27 days in jail in a separate drug-related case, has now been cleared of all charges in this case. Her lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, welcomed the CBI’s decision but criticized the media for spreading false stories and targeting innocent people. He said Rhea and her family suffered a lot because of baseless accusations and media trials.
However, Sushant’s father is still not convinced. He believes his son could not have died by suicide and hopes that the court will deliver justice. The Bandra magistrate court will review the closure report on April 8 before officially closing the case.
With this decision, one of Bollywood’s most controversial cases is coming to an end. While the CBI has ruled out foul play, Sushant’s family and fans are still searching for answers, keeping his memory and the mystery surrounding his death alive.
